TITLE: Payroll Specialist

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for day-to-day payroll related operations in our state of the art beef manufacturing plant. This includes the accurate and timely processing of weekly and biweekly payrolls for 900+ employees, including exempt/non-exempt and union employees. Duties will include preparation, analysis and review of payroll reports, calculation of exception items such as bonuses, garnishments, terminations and administration of time and attendance system. As a member of the plant HR team, this role also includes frequent interaction with employees, providing general payroll and HR information and employee service. This role requires a high degree of attention to detail as well as strong communication skills, including the ability to frequently interact with employees and managers at all levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process payroll from timekeeping system to payroll system
  • Compile and process payroll data including garnishments, vacation time, incentive pay, benefits deductions and other payroll exceptions
  • Work closely with corporate payroll administrator to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing
  • Provide payroll related reporting
  • Provide general HR and Payroll service and information to employees at all levels
  • Participate in ongoing HR projects and initiatives
  • General Administrative tasks
  • Consistent and punctual attendance
     

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and technical ability
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Keen sense of ethics and confidentiality with regard to employee and business issues
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to juggle multiple priorities and work under strict deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Working knowledge of related federal and state laws
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required
     

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; College degree preferred
  • 2+ years of successful payroll administration, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with payroll and timekeeping systems
